Sights on the way down
(Altoona, PA to Nags Head, NC)

Our journey out of Altoona begins on I-99 South. (Formerly known as Rt. 220)

Approximately 30 minutes south of Altoona, you take a right onto Rt. 30 East

We continue on Rt. 30 through Everett
(The little town that can. What, I have no idea!)
As we continue on Rt. 30, you will go into Breezewood.
(major truck stop town)

At Breezewood, you make a right onto I-70 South.
A few landmarks you hit before you hit the state line.
Exit to Town Hill (left) - Don't take this exit, and Phantom Fireworks (right)
I don't understand how they operate in PA!

Shortly after Phantom Fireworks, you enter Maryland for a 3 minute stay.

Right after you cross into Maryland, we get in the left hand lane to
take Rt. 522 South.
(I always avoid the beltway!)

After taking the exit, you pass over Hancock Md, and then cross a
bridge into West Virginia.

You travel past the US Silica plant right into Berkeley Springs.
(Watch your speed!!!)

Probably the biggest landmark of Berkeley Springs
(Other than the 1st out of state Sheetz)
is Berkeley Springs State Park.
Looks like a nice place, but I've never stopped.

Heading out of Berkeley Springs, across from McDonalds is a Splish Splash Car Wash. It works very well! Take a clean car to the beach! JP is entertained by the multi-colored soap!

You will then travel out of Berkeley Springs (continue to watch your speed!) About 20 minutes
out of town you will pass landmark Cacapon state park.
(What's a Cacapon?)

Very shortly after Cacapon (thank God) you exit West Virginia, into Virginia.

Lets continue through Virginia
